WestCoast Railway R711 takes water at Colac.  This is possibly     the fastest regular scheduled steam hauled passenger service anywhere.  This is not a fan trip.  Not narrow gauge (5'3") but what the heck, it was great, 60 to 70 mph behind the thundering R Class. 13 Nov 99.

R711 has been fitted with controls that allow diesel electric locomotives to be operated from the steam engine, so that one crew can operate the steam loco and diesel loco with heavy trains during busy periods.   What a marvellous idea!  Long live steam!
